連日35度を超えようかという暑さです。
職場の健康診断も終わったので、昨日は、焼き肉を堪能してきました。
英気を養って、本日は勤務校のイベントで「体験入学」。
中学生とその保護者、一部引率の中学校の先生が300名弱参加します。
進学クラスでは「模擬授業」を行う傍ら、進学相談や教材展示なども行っています。
今年の模擬授業は「数学」でしたので、私は英語の教材展示で、「学級文庫」から一部運び出して並べていました。
「呟き」でも連投していましたが、こちらでもご紹介。
何組かの参加者から、教材の意図とか、授業での使われ方などの質問も受け、誠意を持って回答させていただきました。特に、英英辞典をなぜこんなたくさん置いているのか？という質問が複数あったので、
電子辞書だと、簡便なものが1冊、類語辞典的なものが1冊入っていれば良い方ですが、その定義や用例で腑に落ちる、実感が持てることは稀なのです。こちらの教室には英英辞典だけで複数冊、しかもレベルの異なるものが用意されていますので、その定義や用例を読み比べることで語義の理解も深まり、定義文に用いられるお定まりの表現形式にも慣れることで、一定の文法力も養うことが可能となります。
という説明をしています。
例えば、次の定義文を読み比べて見て下さい。だいたいの意味がわかればいい、というレベルと、確かに○○とは違うってことがよく分かる、というレベルには相当な差があることがわかります。何の定義かはわかりますよね？

物語系のGRだけではなく、百科事典や図解、Q&As本が多いことに興味を示して質問してくれた方が何人もいて、こういう人に入学して貰えるとホントに有難いんだけどねぇ…、という切実な思いを持ちました。
ということで、「ナイモノネダリ」とか「ゲンジツバナレ」をことばにするには、この手の本で。
