Not in so many words...

The failure of this project resulted from our ignorance of consumers’ needs.

  • We were ignorant of consumers’ needs.
  • We ignored consumers’ needs.

  • This project failed.

  • This project was not successful.

  • Their project succeeded.
  • Their project was successful.
  • Their project was a (big) success.

  • burst into laughter
  • burst out laughing

  • Many universities in Russia are called " institutes " and many of these institutes are specialized, focusing on a single field. For example, in Moscow there are institutes for medicine, metallurgy, automotives, commerce, and other fields. In reality, these institutes are real universities with 10 to 25 thousand students each, offering a variety of degrees. (Comparison of CIS curricula in Russian and American universities. • (e) most universities in Nigeria are making remarkable efforts through the training of potential counsellors at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a view to meeting the potential needs of school children in Nigeria; (f) many universities in Nigeria have not only consistently hired counsellor educators but have promoted many of them to the rank of full professors (SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN NIGERIA, Aluede, Oyaziwo / Afen-Akpaida, Justina E. / Adomeh, Ilu O.C., 2004, Winter2004, Vol. 125 Issue 2, p296-305, 10p)
  • In " hot " fields that are new or growing rapidly, like bioinformatics, human resources are inevitably in short supply. And truly exceptional scientists and engineers will always be few in number and vigorously pursued by employers. # Still, in most areas of science and engineering at present, the available data show sufficient numbers or even surpluses of highly qualified candidates with extensive postgraduate education. This is especially the case in the academy, which has become risk-averse about replacing departing tenured faculty with tenure-track junior positions. Instead, many universities in the United States have been filling such open slots with temporary and part-time appointees they find in ample pools of highly educated applicants. Indeed, advertisements for a single tenure-track assistant professorship often attract hundreds of applications from recent Ph.D.s. (Do we need more scientists? Teitelbaum, Michael S., 2003, Fall2003 Issue 153, p40-53, 14p)
  • The Clearing System is designed to help people looking for an alternative place. The idea is to match suitably qualified applicants with institutions which have vacancies. Clearing starts on 26 August this year. It is not until then that official information on course vacancies will be published. But many universities and colleges are already advertising their courses in NME and the national press. Most give telephone numbers you can ring for more information, and many will tell you over the phone if they are likely to offer you a place. Do look at different courses from those you applied for originally. You might well find something that is exactly right for you that you didn't even know about earlier. (New Musical Express. 1991)
